Jilin Normal University is also the training centre of teachers of colleges and universities of Jilin Province. The training centre of teachers of colleges and universities of Jilin Province is situated in Jilin Normal University. The university undertakes responsibility of training teachers for all of ordinary colleges and universities, adult’s university and vocational skills schools. The university has trained more than 10,000 teachers by holding courses for assistant training, studying of graduate course, thematic seminar and pre-job training for many years. With complete specialties and integrated system, the University is now in a condition that Literature, History, Education, Administration, Science, Engineering, Law and Economics develop in harmony. The University presently comprises 20 colleges, 4 teaching and research sections,7 teaching centres, 32 graduate schools and 87 laboratories. The university has 35 undergraduate specialties, including: Chinese Literature, Ideological and Political Education, History, English, Russian, Japanese, Primary Education, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology Science, Geographic Science, Computer Science and Technology, Educational Technology, Psychology, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Musicology, Electronic Information Engineering, Geographic Information System, Environment Engineering, Communication Engineering, Applied Physics, Management, Edit and Publication, Science, Tour Management, Journalism, Law, International Economics and Trades, Human Resource Management, Art Design and Social Physical Education.

The University runs itself by holding quality lifeline firmly all the time. During 1980s to 1990s, the university was famous in the whole country for severe training of students’ vocation skill as teachers. In recent years, the University has strengthened the education and teaching reform continuously and made great efforts to establish high quality education with optimised structure and diversified training formats. The University attaches importance to cultivate students’ ability of innovating, creating and practicing. It also lays great emphasis upon training teachers’ soul of selfless dedication, view of comprehensive development, virtue of loving students, ability of imparting knowledge and educating people and the good teaching quality receives extensive praise of the society. The University has been appraised the national advanced unit of university students’ social practice by the Central Committee of the League and the National Students’ Federation. Now the University has become a hot spot in which youth with lofty ideals are willing to enter for examinations and units choose talents they want. On one hand, we have a broad “entrance” for the enrolling standard which is 70 score above the provincial standard; on the other hand we have broad “exit” for the report on the employment rate which was up to 98% simply in one year. The key high schools of cities of other province such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Dalian, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, etc. and universities in Jilin Province come to the university to choose graduates in succession.

As the scientific research undertaking has been developing fast, Jilin Normal University has gained remarkable achievements in scientific research and served for local economic construction. The University has published more than 150 academic monograph, teaching material, translations, reference books and more than 2000 theses. There is a key base of social science of philosophy of province in the university, which is the only base of studying in Manchu’s culture of universities in China at present.The base engages in the research of Sa Manchu’s mask atlas and pictures and characters of virgin forest, research of Manchu’s custom and history of Manchu’s clan family. There are 4 provincial key disciplines in the university- Special History, Condensed state Physics, Inorganic Chemistry, English Language and Literature, Marxist Theory and Ideological Political Education, Ancient History, Ethics, Chinese Philology, Developmental Psychology. Implementing the strategy of revitalizing the nation through science and education, the university obtained remarkable economic and social benefit for serving local economic construction, the university had been chosen as the advanced unit in cooperation of enterprises, education and science successively in 2000 and 2001.

Jilin Normal University plays an active part in foreign academic exchanging and has established extensive exchange relations. In our country, the University has established cooperation and system of regular meeting- holding and connecting with 12 provincial key normal universities and colleges in the Northeast, the North China and the Northwest. The University has established regular exchange cooperation and Presidents’ joint conference system with more than 70 normal universities and colleges. We have established cooperative exchange relatives with universities and colleges in America, Russia, Japan, Australia, Ukraine, Korea, etc. The University will keep the pace with times and stick to take reform as motive force, to take development as absolute principle, to regard quality as life line, to coordinate the scale, structure, quality and benefit. All the staff and the students will make great effort to build Jilin Normal University into a first-class comprehensive normal university with distinct characteristics in China.

Other institutions

TasCollege is also having preliminary discussions with education institutions in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane with a view of including the better performing ones on China Trade Centre’s Approved Panel of RTO. TasCollege has entered an Agreement to purchase Unit 14 (285 m2) in the $46 million UniVillage development proposed to be built by Sabina at Newnham. Stage 1 construction is expected to be completed by end of 2009.
